Inscription: 空山新雨。二零二一年五月参用黄鹤山樵法写。Title: New Rain in Empty Mountains. Painted with incorporating methods of the Yuan-dynasty master Huanghe Shanqiao (Wang Meng, 1308—1385) in May 2021.

Wang Meng's signature was density — landscapes so packed with life and texture that the eye never stops moving. This work absorbs that quality fully, every corner humming with foliage, rock, and mist freshly washed by rain.

The foreground is the painting's most arresting passage. Trees crowd forward with remarkable variety — broad-leafed canopies, gnarled branches, tangled undergrowth — each rendered in its own distinct set of marks, building a textural richness that rewards close examination. Behind them, mist opens unexpectedly, creating breathing space before the mountain ranges press forward again in layered, atmospheric washes, a waterfall threading down the left middle ground, pale and quiet against the surrounding complexity — the brushwork throughout energetic and deliberate, dense cun strokes on the mountain faces, looser expressive marks in the foliage, nothing passive, the empty mountain after rain filling with everything.

空山新雨

王蒙的标志是繁密——山水层层叠叠，满溢生机与肌理，令视线流连不去。此作深得其旨，每一处角落皆在雨后新洗的枝叶、山石与云雾中涌动着生命。

前景是全画最夺目之处。树木以丰富的姿态向前推涌——宽叶树冠、虬曲枝干、缠结的丛草——各以其独特的笔法写就，构筑出经得起细细品味的丰厚质感。其后，云雾意外地打开一片空间，给人以喘息，而后山峦又以层叠的大气渲染再度向前推来，一道细瀑在左侧中景间静静穿行，在周遭的繁复之中淡然安静——全幅笔法充满活力而笃定，山面以密集皴法写就，枝叶以更为松动的笔触点出，无一处懈怠，雨后空山，被万物填满。
