The title does much of the work here, and the painting honors it completely. There is no color, no warmth — only ink, white space, and the particular hush of a landscape gone quiet under late autumn.

A gnarled tree leans across the composition with the ease of something that has stood through many seasons. Below, a small unmoored boat sits at the water's edge — empty, still, belonging to no one. A cascade threads down the mountainside in the distance, more sound than image. In the classical tradition, such emptiness is never absence — the space between strokes breathes as much as the strokes themselves.

The artist describes this as casually painted — xì xiě, a playful, unhurried hand — and that lightness shows. Not carelessness, but the ease that comes from deep familiarity, the brush finding its path without forcing it.
